“You will fall in love with your friends. Deep, passionate love. You will create a second family with them, a kind of tribe that makes you feel less vulnerable. Sometimes our families can’t love us all the time. Sometimes we’re born into families who don’t know how to love us properly. They do as much as they can but the rest is up to our friends. They can love you all the time, without judgement. At least the good ones can.”—(via themonotonousmonster)
Hi Skelly! I hope you are doing well today. C: Yesterday's stream was awesome. If, you can help me, I have a photoshop question...you know whenever you don't like a part of something you draw and then you make that grid thing come out so you can warp the picture in the way you want? How are you able to do that?
ASD I completely forgot to answer this yesterday ;A; So sorry!
So anyway, Are you wondering how to find the warp function or just how to use it? Because I suppose I could compose a short tutorial for that. Or IDK I don’t even know how to answer this properly :’D Maybe next time you happen to be in the stream I could show you. I’m not the smartest when it comes to explaning art related things. But I’d be happy to try 8D
(aa and thanks! I’m feeling great! Cold was pretty bad yesterday but now I’m feeling much better :D)
You don’t need to describe your character down to the finest detail; let your reader do some imagining of their own (they seem to enjoy that!) But there are a few character points that affect how they interact with their world which you can reveal through action.
Height: Do they need to duck through doorways, or bend to speak to their friends? Do they struggle to reach the top shelf in the supermarket? The way they cope with these things reveal how they feel about their height. Do they compensate by wearing heels or by slouching?
Weight: Do they easily slip through small spaces and crowds? Or do they avoid sitting on flimsy-looking furniture? Do they suffer backache from pulling their stomach in all day, or do they wear layers to try and look bulkier?
Eyesight: How well can they see distances or read small print? Do they proudly wear glasses, do they go more subtle with contact lenses, or are they in complete denial?
Smell: Do they douse themselves in perfume or do people shy away from their sweaty smell? Do they realise what they smell like, or are they oblivious?
Walk: Does the way they walk make them stand out, or blend in with the crowd? Do they look ahead or walk looking at their feet? How big is their stride, how big are their feet, and how does this affect the way they move around their world?
These are all things that can be used to reveal character, impact plot and affect the setting.
Think about how happy your character is with their physical attributes. Do they hide them because they’ve suffered years of bullying, or are they proud of who they are and have little care for what others think?
Mordin is a filthy motherfucker who never throws clothing away and only washes them when they become a biological hazard (evidence: he kept wearing that filthy-ass labcoat from Omega for over a year).
He is the worst roommate ever.
He finds Padok Wiks frustratingly wishy-washy and finicky.
The reason facial patterns are so common among asari and salarians is because of the turians. The turians were painted as galactic heroes and face tattoos became the hot new trend. It persisted because turians subconsciously got along better with painted aliens.
Turians are incapable of using straws, due to the difficulty of sealing their mouths. They only salivate when eating, and drinking out of wide-mouthed cups (picture the average human mug) is near-impossible. Their own drink containers look much like beer or soda bottles.
Because of the metal in their plates, turians are poor swimmers. Decorative bodies of water (fountains, lakes, streams) are almost unheard of in turian landscaping.
Being from a hot, radiation-riddled planet, turian bodies do not conserve heat well. For this reason, most turians take advantage of armor’s climate controls, or wear multiple layers, including gloves, when out of their comfort zone. (Garrus prefers the gun battery because it’s a little warmer than the rest of the ship)
Quarian appearance is common knowledge.
Quarian language, however, is not. It’s often marginalized or outright ignored in official translation patches, which is why so many common quarian phrases are untranslated (keelah se’lai, bosh’tet).
Dextro/levo incompatibility is seriously overblown, due to a mixture of xenophobia, harsh awareness campaigns, and ‘public knowledge’.
Salarians have sex drives, but they’re relatively low outside of mating season. A salarian actively seeking sexual contact outside of that is unusual, but not unheard of, though it tends to be for simple physical gratification. The myth of universal salarian asexuality persists because their method of reproduction is so different from the other viviparous Council species; there is very little overlap in their mating habits.
Salarian young have vestigial tails that fall off as they reach adolescence.
Asari have had chronic trouble with plagues throughout their history. Because of their genetic similarity, a city could be paralyzed or even wiped out by a single illness. The wanderlust of the maiden stage and later stigma against pureblood relationships evolved to combat this.
((Since it’s headcanon day, have a whole bunch of my old headcanons.))
[These are ACTUALLY AMAZING and I love you so much for this okay can I just say.]
Parents are difficult. When my mom gets mad in a slightest way at me she says that I'm manipulative, lazy, useless, un caring, disgusting and that I have problems with my father and that I'm not thankful for anything they do to me. Even though I try. Don't get me started on my siblings, gosh! I'm just saying that family can be very dis-encouraging but you're a great person and I know you will get far Skelly.
I like this anon, he/she understands! It’s not fun having parents who pressure and put you down a lot. Ugh, my favorite word that they use to address me must be “ungrateful” or “selfish”. It’s hard not to believe everything they say too since they’re supposed to be your parents, your guiding figures. Their words must be right, right? No one is supposed to know you better than them. And they only nag you, pressure you, yell at you for no reason, compare you to others, make you feel insecure, constantly stressed, even afraid sometimes and they do these discouraging things because “they love you” and that they “only want the best for you”. Hard to love them back. And it’s hard to ignore their words. The power they have over you.
Haha, Don’t get me started on my sibling too :’D That a whole nother story though, heh.
Thank you, anon, for you kind words ;~;. I feel a lot better. I hope we all get far even with our familial issues. Not going to let something like this stop me from getting what I want to achieve in life.
